REX Controls, founded in 2000, was formed to meet the growing challenges of sophistication and quality of control systems, specifically in the area of process and machine control. Its aim is to provide tools and services for the development of advanced control applications integrating the latest knowledge from automatic control, robotics, mechatronics, information technology and artificial intelligence. Long-term close cooperation with NTIS (New Technologies for the Information Society) – European Centre of Excellence – is important for achieving this goal. REX Controls transfers some R&D results of NTIS into practice.
REX Controls employees share a common creed:
Be innovative with a global perspective. Be friendly and helpful.
The company was founded by Miloš Schlegel and Pavel Balda.
Since the founding of the company, the development of the REX system for real-time control of machines and processes has begun. It is currently available under the REXYGEN brand (www.rexygen.com).
Creation of a PID controller with automatic tuning of parameters. The built-in autotuner in this block is still one of the best on the market.
A program for automatic tuning of industrial controllers from PMA GmbH (now West Control Solutions) using the PIDMA block has been released. The program has been delivered for more than 10 years. Since then, the PIDMA block has been part of the firmware of the company's controllers.
The first fast application of the REX system for textile machine control with a period of 1 millisecond.
REX was ported to a programmable controller from ICP DAS with the Windows CE 4 operating system. Later in 2008 to its successor WinPAC 8000.
REX system was first ported to the LINUX operating system. Since then, it has been ported to many devices with x86/x64 or ARM architecture with LINUX.
Gradually, drivers for industrial communication protocols Ethernet POWERLINK, EtherCAT, CAN / CANopen, NetX processors from Hilscher were developed into the REX system.
The first version of the motion control library according to the specifications from PLCopen.
The company developed the HIL (Hardware in the loop) simulator of a nuclear reactor and its use in cooperation with the company ZAT a.s. the control system of the research nuclear reactor was developed for ÚJV Řež, a.s.
The first version of the fully graphical operator interface in HTML5 based on SVG. Screens are drawn in REX HMI Designer (based on InkScape).
The company has developed a physical model of a triple inverted pendulum for educational purposes. REX Controls has managed to swing up and balance this pendulum in the upper unstable equilibrium position as the second organization in the world.
Developed an I/O module with industry-standard parameters for the Raspberry Pi. Full support in the REX system. Website monarco.io established. (REX was ported to the Raspberry Pi in 2012).
Function blocks for the IoT have been developed for the REX system. These are mainly function blocks for working with strings, with regular expressions, JSON, communication in HTTP, SMTP protocols, etc.). At that time, the first version of the OPC UA server for REX was also being completed. The driver for the MQTT protocol was created later in 2018.
This year, the first custom manipulator was developed and integrated into an existing air conditioning production line. Since then, other similar orders have been realized.
That year, the company delivered the first measuring system for nuclear energy. Since then, several other contracts have been implemented in this area.
The name REXYGEN began to be used for the REX system for marketing and business purposes. At the same time, rexygen.com website was established.
A function block for REX has been developed for calling user algorithms in the PYTHON language. The block is preferably used for the R&D of prototype solutions, especially when using numerical libraries available for PYTHON.
The company has developed a completely new version of balance calculations of one of the diagnostic systems for the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. The solution is based on special blocks and drivers for the REX system.
